Later in the day, I made a trip to the Botanic Gardens with Emily to finish our work. I had an application due for the Biology Fellows Program. First, we went to a hawker center that was two blocks away from the gardens for dinner.
While queuing at an Indian hawker stand, we asked a local Singaporean in front of us for recommendations on what to eat. The stand seemed to be pretty popular among the locals, but had no pictures alongside its foreign menu. As a result, being the typical foreigners, we had trouble figuring out what the dishes were. Thankfully the local explained them to us and even helped us with ordering. When we got to the front of the stand to pay, we found out that our dishes had already been paid for. Not only had the kind stranger helped us with the menu, but he also bought the both of us dinner. I'm indefinitely touched by Singaporean kindness, and it makes me sad that I will be leaving this amazing place in a few weeks.
We ordered from the selamat datang and ate Soto Ayam. Afterwards we ordered rojak from Adam's Indian Rojak. It was delicious!
